NPC Newsletter 44, September 1998 - Contents and Editorial

Note to the web edition: this is the first of the NPC newsletters to be placed on the website substantially complete. As it is thus accessible potentially to anyone, certain items of purely internal club interest (like the agenda for the AGM), and all members' addresses and phone numbers, have been removed.

Editorial

Having rashly said I would edit an issue of the NPC Newsletter, I decided that I would 'tweak' the format. My aim is to provide a newsletter containing mainly current 'news', leaving the longer articles to the journal. I would be glad to hear and comments or suggestions on the style and format of the Newsletter.

I would have liked to have more caving articles or news to put in this issue of the newsletter, but hopefully even without much caving news there are still items of interest for everyone.

Iain's second article on the future of the 'Pennine' will hopefully produce some action. It is guaranteed to produce more debate in the pub (I think!).

Individual NPC members are certainly active around the world with cave exploration in Slovenia and Mexico, underwater cave exploration in France, mountaineering on Cho Oyu and in Garwhal Himalaya, cycling in the Karokoram and ski-mountaineering in Canada to name but a few of the activities in 1998. Perhaps these activities might lead to more articles!

Thanks to Malcolm Bass, Nic Blundell, John Biffin, John Cordingley, Iain Crossley, Ann McLain and Richard Trusson for contributing to this newsletter.

Next Newletter

It is hoped that the next Newsletter will be published in the second half of November. Therefore the suggested copy dealine is 15 November 1998.

Any articles or other items for the newsletter should be sent to the Newsletter Editor, Chris Rason or the Secretary, Tim Palmer.

Hopefully we might get some more caving articles!
